What is Cursillo? Cursillo, pronounced "cur-see-yo", is an encounter with Christ in a small community of the Church so that His love and grace can be brought to every aspect of life. This weekend retreat provides an experience of spirtual renewal and is a method for christian living and evangelization.
What is the format of Cursillo? Cursillo begins on a designated Thursday evening and concludes on Sunday afternoon. The first part of the weekend is called the "retreat phase" of the Cursillo. It lasts from Thursday evening until breakfast on Friday. Then, the "little course" really begins. Throughout the weekend lay people and priests present the basic teachings of Christ. Each presentation is followed by a discussion. Daily Eucharist, the Sacrament of Penance, common prayer and personal prayer are significant elements of the weekend.
When and Where is Cursillo Held? The Cursillo experience is scheduled as either a women's weekend or a men's weekend. The retreat weekends are offered at various times of the year and are coordinated through the Office of Worship and Spiritual Life through the Archdiocese of Boston (617-883-6764). The program is held at the Campion Center, Weston, MA.
In addition, Cursillo experiences are coordinated by the Holy Cross Retreat House in Easton, Ma. Additional information for Cursillo at this location can be obtained at www.retreathouse.org.
