Heavenly Father, we ask your blessing upon us,
that we may serve at your altar with reverence,
attention, and love, in order to draw others to do the same.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
In speaking to a group of over 4000 altar servers who had gathered in St. Peter's Square in Rome in August of 2015, Pope Francis said: "The closer you are to the altar, the more you will remember to speak with Jesus in daily prayer; the more you will be nourished by the word and the body of the Lord, the better able you will be to go out to others, bringing them the gift that you have received, giving in turn with enthusiasm the joy you have received".
The Altar Server ministry is open to children who have made their First Holy Communion and who love Jesus, love the Mass, and want to serve God and His Church. Servers should be mature enough to respectfully assist the priest and deacon on the altar. Participants serve at the regular weekend Masses as well as at Holy Day Masses and special liturgies.
A child interested in becoming an altar server should contact the parish office for more information. Orientation and training programs are held periodically and are advertised in the parish bulletin and on this website.
